As probably most of you already know, there is Oscars Ceremony taking place in America soon. It is the biggest film event where the best directors, actors and so on, who were previously nominated, gather. But it isn’t the only event in the film world that exists. You should take a look at others that also deserve to be seen.
Have you ever heard about BAFTA? Properly it’s: ‘British Academy of Film and Television Arts‘ . Instead of Oscars, the winners at BAFTA Awards receive a statuette called the Golden Mask. Let’s take a closer look at the event itself.
BAFTA has taken place on 18th February at 11:00 AM. This year there were 24 categories. The attention deserves surely the film “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri” that won the most of its nominations (5). His biggest rival was “The Shape of Water” that won in 3 categories, Guillermo Del Toro certainly did a great job with the design of the film. But not only him, “Blade Runner 2049” is also filled with spectacular effects that perfectly reflect the look of future world. “Dunkirk” turned out to be a huge disappointment with winning only one award, for sound, at its native land.
Let’s bring these, in my opinion, most important awards:
Best film – “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”
Best British film – “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”
Director – Guillermo Del Toro (“The Shape of Water”)
Leading actress – Francis McDormand (“Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”)
Leading actor – Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”)
Supporting actress – Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”)
Supporting actor – Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”)
Animated movie – “Coco”
Film not in the English language – “The Handmaiden”
Editing – “Baby driver”
Special visual effects – “Blade Runner 2049”
Sound – “Dunkirk”
Production design – “The Shape of Water”
Original music – “The Shape of Water”
Adapted screenplay “Call me by your name”
Original screenplay – “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”
Rising star – Daniel Kaluuya
After getting to know the films that got the Golden Mask, we can guess who is the closest to win the most important award at Oscars Ceremony. Of course “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri” keeps its lead but “The Shape of Water” is still such a threat to this film. We have no other choice but to wait till 4th march and see how it will go…
